DCL™ Platform

Our Technology

We develop innovative deuterated molecules based on known compounds.

Compared with traditional deuteration techniques, our DCL™ platform not only enables precise control of the reaction sites during deuteration, but also has broad functional group tolerance, making it a mild deuteration strategy.

How Does DCL Work?

Our DCL™ platform integrates and improves existing deuterium technology, using a novel catalytic system to achieve efficient and high-precision substitution, greatly expanding the range of deuterated compounds and improving the sensitivity of deuterium substitution.

Deuterium Isotope Effect

BOC Sciences applies DCL technology to deuterate some specific sites on drug molecules, opening up a shortcut for the discovery of new drugs.

As a stable isotope of hydrogen, deuterium is non-radioactive, and can exhibit physical and chemical properties such as solubility, melting point, and affinity for target proteins that are almost identical to those of hydrogen. However, the atomic masses of the two differ significantly, making the carbon-deuterium bond more stable than the carbon-hydrogen bond. When hydrogen in a compound is replaced by deuterium, it affects the rate of chemical reactions, which is called the deuterium isotope effect. The deuterium isotope effect is of great significance in drug metabolism, especially in metabolic reactions catalyzed by enzymes.

Deuterium Chemistry Can Enhance Pharmacological Effects

Our DCL technology shows great potential in improving therapeutic properties such as pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties of pharmaceutical compounds.

Deuterium is extremely low in toxicity to biological systems. When human body fluids contain up to 23% heavy water, no toxic side effects are seen in the short term. Deuteration can reduce the elimination rate of drugs in biological systems, thereby prolonging the half-life of drugs in the body, which is beneficial to reduce the dose of drugs and maintain the effective concentration of drugs in the body for a long time. In addition, deuteration also promotes a large number of unmetabolized drugs into the blood circulation, which is beneficial to increase the patient's tolerance to the drugs.
